W.R.A.C.E. was started in 1988. It was the idea of Jerry Slavik and Dave Orshinsky, two local (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) athletes who wanted to raise money for charity through running and walking events. It is a nonprofit organization which caters to walkers, runners and wheelers of all ages.
W.R.A.C.E. averages 150 members each year. Each year a new W.R.A.C.E. executive committee is elected from the membership and they help the different charities to plan and put on the events.
There is an average of 10 events from March to December, in which members compete for points, with the winners in their age group receiving an award at the end of the season.
